Terms of use

DRAFT, pending review by counsel. This text describes how Moonbox works today, but it is not yet our final legal wording and may change before the public launch.
“We” means Iris Labs, the maker of Moonbox. [Legal entity pending.]
These terms apply when you download or use Moonbox (the Mac app, the tools it downloads, our cloud service and this website). By using Moonbox you agree to them. Our privacy policy explains what information we handle and how.
Who can use Moonbox
You must be at least 13 (or the minimum age where you live, 16 in some countries) to use Moonbox, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree to them for you. If you use Moonbox for an organisation, you agree to these terms for it.
Moonbox is free
Version 1 of Moonbox is free. We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to install and use it on the Macs registered to your account, currently up to three. You may not resell Moonbox, its tools or its model files, copy them to offer them as a service to others, or try to get around the sign-in or download limits.
The private beta
During the beta, Moonbox is a test version. It may have bugs, it may change, and features may come and go. Please keep regular backups of anything important. Invite codes are for the person they were sent to: don’t share, sell or post them.
The software
Moonbox, its design, the Moonbox name and logo belong to us or our licensors; these terms don’t give you any rights in them beyond the license above. Don’t copy, modify or reverse-engineer Moonbox except where the law allows it despite this, and don’t remove its notices. Some parts are open-source software under their own licenses, which Moonbox lists in Help › Licences (see licences and notices); those licenses come first for those parts.
Feedback
If you send us ideas or feedback, we may use them to improve Moonbox without owing you anything. You keep any rights in the files you choose to attach, and we use them only to look into what you reported.
Your account
You need an account to download Moonbox’s tools and updates. You can sign in with an email link or with Google; if you use Google, Google’s own terms also apply to your Google account, and Moonbox receives only your basic profile (see the privacy policy). Give us an email address you can receive mail at, keep your sign-in secure, and tell us if you think someone else is using your account; you’re responsible for what happens on it. You can delete it at any time in Settings › Account.
What you make is yours
Everything you create with Moonbox is made on your Mac and belongs to you, to the extent the law allows. We don’t claim any rights in it and we never receive it. Some tools are built on models with their own licenses; the app lists them, and a few may limit some uses of what they produce. [List and summary pending.]
Use Moonbox responsibly
You may not use Moonbox to make or share content that:
- is illegal where you are, or helps someone break the law;
- sexualises minors in any way;
- copies a real person’s face or voice without their permission, or is meant to deceive people into thinking a real person said or did something they didn’t;
- harasses, threatens or defames anyone, or promotes violence or hatred against people for who they are;
- infringes someone else’s copyright, trademark or other rights.
Moonbox marks the pictures, video and audio you export as made with AI (a C2PA content credential). Don’t remove that mark to mislead people about where something came from.
The assistant
The assistant can act on your Mac when you ask it to, such as creating files or building a website. It asks before risky actions. Review what it does, especially before you share or publish the results. The assistant can be wrong.
Other services
When you ask the assistant to search the web, or connect another app to Moonbox, you use services we don’t run. Their own terms apply, and we aren’t responsible for them or for what they return.
No warranty
Moonbox is provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, to the extent the law allows. AI tools can produce inaccurate, unexpected or offensive results; you decide what to keep and share.
Limitation of liability
To the extent the law allows, we aren’t liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for lost data, arising from your use of Moonbox. [Caps and consumer-law carve-outs pending counsel.]
Ending
You can stop using Moonbox and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end access for anyone who breaks these terms, misuses invite codes, or puts other people or the service at risk; where we can, we’ll tell you why. If we stop offering Moonbox, the tools you’ve downloaded keep working on your Mac; only downloads and updates stop, and we’ll give notice where we can.
Changes
We may update these terms. We’ll change the date at the top and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email before they take effect.
Where you can use it
Use Moonbox only where the law allows you to, including export-control and sanctions laws; it isn’t offered where those laws forbid it.
Governing law
[Governing law and venue pending counsel.] Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have as a consumer that can’t be changed by contract where you live.
