Licences and notices

Moonbox is built on open-source software and openly licensed AI models. Where to find their licences and notices, and what they mean for you.

Built on open work

Moonbox’s tools run on open-source software and openly licensed AI models, each used under its own licence. Many of those licences ask that their copyright notices and licence texts travel with the software, and some ask for a line such as “Built with …” next to the feature that uses them.

Where to find them

In Moonbox, open Settings and choose Licences and notices. It lists every component on your Mac, with its licence, copyright and any notice it requires, and shows each licence in full. It covers:

  • the app itself and the software inside it;
  • the engine every tool shares, and the browser the assistant uses when it needs one;
  • each tool you’ve downloaded and the models in it.

A tool’s notices arrive with the tool and go away when you remove it.

What it means for you

  • The software: you can use Moonbox as the terms describe; the open-source licences give you further rights over those components themselves, which their texts explain.
  • What you make: what you create is yours. A few model licences limit some uses of their output, for example making content that impersonates a real person; those limits are part of Moonbox’s terms.
  • Source code: where a licence entitles you to the source of a component we ship, ask us using the contact details at the end of the terms.
