Downloads and disk space
How tool downloads work, roughly how big each tool is, and how to free up space.
A small app, tools on demand
The Moonbox app is a small download. The tools that make things are downloaded separately, only the ones you pick, and stay on your Mac afterwards. You need to be online and signed in to download a tool; after that it works offline.
How big are the tools?
Moonbox shows the exact size of each tool before you download it, and how much free space your Mac has. As a rough guide, on a Mac with 24 GB of memory or more:
| Tool | About |
|---|---|
| Voice isolator | under 0.1 GB |
| Voice changer | 1 GB |
| Stem splitter, Photo clean-up | 2 GB each |
| Speech to text | 3 GB |
| Sound effects | 6 GB |
| Assistant | 7 GB |
| Pictures | 7 GB |
| Text to speech | 8 GB |
| Songs | 10 GB |
| 3D models | 11 GB |
| Talking portraits | 26 GB |
| Video effects | 34 GB |
| Video with sound | 42 GB |
Some tools are smaller on Macs with less memory. Tools that share files only download those files once.
Leave some free space beyond the download itself: Moonbox needs room for what you make, and macOS runs best with at least 10–15% of the disk free.
Downloads pick up where they left off
If your connection drops, the Mac sleeps or you quit Moonbox, the download pauses and continues from where it stopped next time. You can keep using the tools you already have while others download.
Freeing up space
Open the Models page and choose Remove next to a tool. Moonbox asks first, then deletes that tool’s files, but keeps any files another installed tool still uses. If another tool depends on the one you’re removing, Moonbox says which; remove that one first, or keep both. A tool that is working on a job can’t be removed until the job ends. What you’ve made is never touched when you remove a tool, and you can download the tool again later.
What you make is kept in Assets. To free space there, delete things you no longer need.
