AI labels on your creations
The content credential and metadata label Moonbox puts on everything it makes, what they say, what they never contain, and how to see them.
What Moonbox adds
Every picture, video, audio file and 3D model Moonbox makes carries a label that says it was made with AI. It’s added on your Mac as the file is saved; nothing is sent anywhere. There are two kinds:
- A content credential. A small, signed record inside the file, in the open C2PA standard that cameras, editing apps and publishers use. Moonbox adds it to PNG, JPEG and WebP pictures, MP4 and MOV video, and M4A, WAV, MP3 and FLAC audio. The signature shows whether the file was changed after Moonbox labelled it.
- A metadata label, where the format has a place for one: the standard “digital source type” field in pictures, the info section of WAV files, and the asset details of 3D models.
Transcripts are text, not media, so they aren’t labelled.
What the label says
| What you made | The label says |
|---|---|
| Something new: pictures, video, talking portraits, 3D models, speech, songs, sound effects, a changed voice | Made with AI in Moonbox |
| Your own photo, clip or 3D model with parts made by AI: photo clean-up, video effects, painting a mesh | Edited with AI in Moonbox |
| Your own recording, cleaned or split: voice isolator, stem splitter | Processed with AI in Moonbox |
It also names Moonbox and its version, and whether the file was created or edited.
It never contains your prompt or any text you typed, your name, email address or account, which AI model did the work, the files you started from, or where you are.
See a label
- The Content Credentials Verify page reads the credential in a file you drop on it. That uploads the file to the page, so only use it for things you’re happy to share.
- To check on your Mac without uploading anything, use the free command-line tool
c2patool:
c2patool your-file.pngprints the credential. - Many photo and video apps show content credentials or the digital source type in their file details.
During the beta, viewers show Moonbox’s credentials as signed by an unknown or untrusted signer. Release versions will sign with a certificate that viewers recognise.
When a label goes missing
Labels travel with the file, but some steps drop them: screenshots, re-saving or exporting from apps that don’t keep content credentials, and sites that strip details from uploads. Please don’t remove a label to make something AI-made look otherwise; the terms ask you not to.
